197,820. Pope, R. L. April 25, 1922. Hoods.-In hoods for motor charabancs and motor vehicles, also applicable to tramcars &c. and of the type supported on flexible wire runners at each side, the usual hoop sticks are dispensed with and a pair of flexible wire runners is arranged on each side engaging stiffening ribs attached to the hood covering. The wires may be made detachable and their tension adjustable. The rear part 5 of the hood is mounted on a pivoted frame 2 to which at each side the two ends of a flexible wire or cord are attached, the wire &c. being doubled at its front end to engage a straining pulley 8 so forming a pair of runners 6, 7 which pass over pulleys 12, 15 mounted in a bracket on the wind screen. The aluminium or other ribs 17 of the hood engage these runners by means of eyes 19, 20 and, when the hood is collapsed, are housed in tubular members 23 on the frame 2. The wires are removed from the straining pulley to allow the hood to be folded back. For use on a tramcar and like vehicle, the pairs of wires are secured to standards at each end of the vehicle and the hood is in two parts secured at the standard ends and adapted to slide toward the trolly pillar, a permanent strip serving to cover the joint.
