Abstract

197,796. Wharton, H. March 24, 1922. Hand actuation. - In a railway wagon brake of the kind in which the hand levers on opposite sides of the wagon are both moved in the same direction (downwardly) to apply the brakes, one lever 1 is directly secured to the rock shaft 4 which actuates the usual push rods 7 connected to the brake blocks and the other lever 8 is mounted freely on the shaft and has an extension 9 connected at 10 to one arm 11 of a bent lever pivoted at 12 to the underframe of the wagon; the other arm 12<a> of the lever being connected by a link to an arm 15 rigidly secured to the rock shaft 4. The connection of the link to the arm 15 may be adjustable. Simultaneous movement of the levers to disengage them from the looking- racks 3a is effected by rods 20 connected to them and to a lever 19 pivoted on a collar 18 loose on the shaft 4.
