Compensating for wear; force-transmitting mechanism.-In order to provide an automatic slack adjuster for the brake rigging of railway cars and the like having a small axle base and a single-chamber brake cylinder provided with two levers 5, 6,.Fig. 6, a third lever 14 is provided guided in parallel with one of the levers 5, 6 the length of one of which, lever 5 in the modification shown, is altered and the pull rod 11 previously connected thereto is elongated and connected with the third lever and the automatic slack adjuster 12 is arranged in the elongated rod 11. The lever 14 is also connected with the usual connecting rod 16. The lever 5 is provided with a liner 5<a> in order not to interfere with the free movement of the rod 11. In a modification the lever 5 is shortened and in another modification the position of the rods 15, 16 is interchanged. In brake riggings already provided with a third lever guided in parallel with one of the brake cylinder levers the length of one of the levers, lever 5 in the modification shown in Fig. 3, is altered and the other lever 6 guided in parallel therewith is altered correspondingly and serves as a third lever for connection of the elongated pull rod 11. The lever 5 is provided with a knee 5<a>. The lever 7 is provided with a cam member or slotted link 13 forming an inclined surface and straddles the end of an arm pivoted on a pin on the lever 6 and connected with the actuating means of the adjuster. In a modification the lever 5 is shortened and the lever 6 lengthened. In a further modification the position of rods 9, 10 is interchanged.
