Abstract
284,016. Jubb, H. Oct. 21, 1926. Hand-actuation.-Brake mechanism for railway wagons comprises diagonally-opposed bellcrank levers 26 connected by pull rods 17, 24 to levers 18, 25 respectively on the opposite ends of a transverse shaft 20. The lever 18 forms one arm of a bell-crank, the other arm 22 of which is connected by a link 10 to the end of a weighted or spring-controlled lever 9 connected to the brake shaft 3 so that by operating either of the levers 26 the brakes may be applied. Each lever 26, Fig. 3, is associated with a semi-circular rack 29 and a pawl 31 pivoted at 32 to the lever is adapted to be turned by the stud 37 on a pivoted bar 28<B> into engagement with the rack upon gripping the lever 26. The pawls 31 are weighted at one end in order to release the brakes from either side of the vehicle when either lever 26 is further depressed. The pawls may be turned into engagement with the. rack by hand-pressure or by turning a lever on which the pawl is mounted.
