Abstract
197,376. Grade, H. Feb. 7, 1922. Gearing for stopping and starting machinery. -A friction driving-gear for motor vehicles comprises a friction wheel 20 movable with respect to an engine-driven disc 21 and a stationary braking-device (not shown) by means of a rod 35 connected by a rod 39 to a pedal 40 and also controlled by an auxiliary lever 36 connected to the rod 35 by springs 37, 38. The spindle 32 of the wheel 20 is carried by a lever 34 pivoted at 33<a> and connected at one end to the rod 35. In a preferred form, Fig. 4, the lever 36 passes through a slot 49 in the rod 35, which is tubular, the springs 37, 38 abutting against discs 54 and against a boss 51 and a nut 52 on the rod 35.
