Balances; vibration, preventing.-In an aperiodic micrometric weighing scale each end of the beam 1 is provided with two knife-edges 6, 6' supporting an intermediate member 7 which carries a knife-edge 8 arranged at right-angles to the line a-b. The scale pans are suspended from the knife-edges 8 by yolks 9. The oscillations of the scale are damped by plates 16 moving within fixed air cylinders 10, the extent of the damping being regulated by means of side openings 11 which may be more or less closed by cylindrical shutters simultaneously operated by a control link. A pointer 3 carries the micrometer 4.
