Abstract

197,217. Whitfield, C. June 1, 1922. Shaft couplings.- In shaft couplings of the kind in which a double-conical split sleeve i is clamped on the shafts by coned collars d, e, the collars are drawn together by sets of bolts, each set comprising a right-hand and left-hand threaded bolt a, b engaging a common screwed sleeve or nut c. The nuts c may be square or hexagonal, or are provided with tommyholes. The sleeve i may normally be held slightly open by one or more springs h, and may have longitudinal grooves i' to increase its flexibility. The bolt-heads a<1>, b<1> are received in grooves d<1>, e' of the collars d, e to prevent their rotation. The nuts c mav be locked bv a wire threaded through holes therein, and may have graduated shoulders co-operating with datum marks on one or both of the bolts of each pair in order to facilitate equal adjustments.
