Abstract

Respirators.-In an air purifying cartridge for rescue apparatus the air is caused to pass in parallel between trays containing caustic soda or other absorbent, the trays being normally in a horizontal position when in use. The trays may be arranged in two or more groups in series, blotting paper may be arranged with the caustic in the trays or between the trays, lime or soda lime may be mixed with the caustic soda, and metal baffles may be placed over the inlet and outlet of the cartridge. In the Figure, which shows the trays vertical instead of horizontal as in use, a casing a contains two groups of trays b separated by a baffle h. The trays are held by pins m and are separated to form air passages by distance pieces c, c<1> of perforated sheet material, those c<1> being extended to act as supports. Blotting paper z is placed within the trays and baffles f, g are placed over the inlet and outlet openings d, e. The trays may be formed of wire gauze, or of perforated metal, or of sheet metal with gauze lids.
