Abstract
528,945. Respiratory appliances. AUERGES, AKT.-GES. May 17, 1939, No. 14785. Convention date, May 25, 1938. [Class 81 (ii)] An air-purifying or regenerating cartridge 1, for use with breathing apparatus, in which a chemical absorbent 3 is arranged in columns between perforate walls 2 substantially parallel with the direction of flow so that columns of chemical substance alternate with air columns, has the latter furnished with foraminous elements 6 corrugated transversely to the direction of flow: the corrugations substantially contacting the perforate walls 2. The walls 2 are held together by perforate corrugated end walls 5. The pitch of the corrugations of the elements 6 may be varied as shown in the upper and lower parts of Fig. 1 and in Fig. 2. In Figs. 3 and 4 the contacting area between wall and corrugation is varied. Fig. 5 shows an embodiment where the entire system, described above, is enclosed in a jacket of chemical substance 8 held between a perforate wall 7 and the cartridge wall. The substance 8 may differ in composition from the substance 3. Absorbent for escaping lye may be loosely packed in the corrugations of the elements.
