Abstract

<PICT:0705705/III/1> An insertion basket for reaction vessels containing a solid material which participates in a reaction within the vessel, when gaseous or liquid reaction media or a mixture thereof are passed through the vessel comprises a central tube 1 and a series of radially extending arms 4 adapted to support perforated plates 5, the peripheral walls of the basket being formed of detachable panels 6. Adjacent panels 6 are connected together by slotted members 7 which engage over the ends of the panels and the end of an arm 4. The baskets in use are arranged in a vertical pile, the central tube portions 1 forming an inlet pipe for the reaction medium which is then led through the solid material contained in the baskets, a gap 2 being left between adjacent tubes 1. The latter may have projecting ribs which correctly centre superposed baskets and lugs 8 for lifting the baskets may be provided on the arms 4. In a modification two central tube portions 1 may have common panels 6. The reaction vessels may be liquid or gas purifiers and the solid material in the baskets may be catalysts, gas-purifying material such as iron oxide, silica gel, active charcoal or other adsorbent or absorbent substances.
