Abstract
2514. Lilley, L. B. Feb. 2. Dust-collectors; filtering. - In apparatus for filtering or purifying the air in breweries &c., the air is forced through a trunk fitted at intervals with reticulated diaphragms or plates coated with vaseline and coal-tar, the reticulation being such as to cause the air to follow a circuitous path and be split up into small streams. All the air required for a brewery, for example, is passed through a trunk A by a fan B. It is first filtered by passing through layers of cotton wool &c. H held between reticulated plates G, and is ten purifed by impact with the walls of the trunk and reticulated plates F, which are coated with vaseline, while two or more of them may also be coated with a disinfectant made from refined coal-tar which has had oxygen circulated through it repeatedly, Separate doors J, K give access to the filters and plates, which are supported on runners I so as to be readily removable. The plates F are provided with openings of widely varying size and location, to ensure that the air takes a circuitous path and is thoroughly split up. The trunk may be made of aluminium. According to the Provisional Specification, alternating portions only of the plates F are perforated or reticulated, and the plates and trunk walls are coated with a mixture of vaseline and refined coal-tar.
