Extincteurs; portable pressure reservoirs.-Portable fire-extinguishers are provided with a pipe system for containing the fire-extinguishing liquid terminating at one end in a squirting nozzle and at the other end opening into the fire-extinguisher; it preferably fills the space within the extinguisher. A coil f has an opening g and continues in a coil f<1> terminating in a nozzle h, before the nozzle another coil or vertical turn may be inserted. Cartridge b, adapted to be pierced by a striking-pin d, contains gas under pressure or chemicals for generating such gas; or a liquid such as lye may fill the space between the coils for generating the gas under pressure when the cartridge. b is destroyed. A push valve may be used to start the extinguisher, or, in the case of an extinguisher constantly under pressure, a cock in front of the nozzle may be employed. In modifications, the space within the extinguisher may be taken up by two cylinders with corrugated strips between them forming spiral channels, or a flat spiral may be inserted between a central cylinder and the outer casing. Horizontal discs may be provided, twisted strips being fixed between them to form spiral channels which are put into communication alternately at the middle and at the circumference to form a continuous passage. Pieces forming winding passages may be inserted.
