Abstract

Thread guides.-In cross winding machines of the type in which the spool is rotated by friction from a drum provided with a cam groove for reciprocating the thread guide, the thread guide is made light and contacts directly with the drum and is guided by a resilient rod engaging its front face. The thread guide is formed from two stamped sheet metal parts secured together, one part having a face shaped to the contour of the drum and provided with a projection to engage the drum cam groove 2, while the other part has one or two thread-guiding grooves 5 and a cross groove 8 to engage a fixed resilient guide rod 9 on which the guide is reciprocated. The front face of the thread guide is also suitably shaped to guide the thread automatically into the groove. The guide rod 9 is mounted in adjustable eccentric bearings 14 at the end of arms 11 which are pivotally adjustable on the drum shaft 10, so that the distance between the drum and the guide rod can be varied and also the position of tho guide rod circumferentially with respect to the drum. In a modification the first face of the guide is provided with two guiding grooves 5, 5<a>. The guide may also be formed solid.
