Circulating fluids through materials.-A vat or dye-pan A divided by a perforated plate D has a central circulating pipe E containing steam jets F<1> and F<2> in a suction chamber G, and a boiling- coil I covered by a conical cover H at the bottom of the pipe E. At the top of the pipe E is an adjustable mushroom-shaped cover K with an internal projection K<1> to distribute the liquor, which is forced up the pipe, over the perforated plate D<1> to the material. The boiling-coil I is preferably perforated to produce horizontal and vertical jets of steam and instead of being circular may consist of two forked pipes. Secondary jets F<3>, F<4> may also be provided. Reversal of flow is obtained by working the jet F<1>, for which purpose the pipe E is perforated at its upper end E<1>.
