Abstract

Jacks.-A fluid-pressure-actuated jack comprises a cylinder 1 formed integral with a base plate 3, a tubular piston 2, and a pump 26 which is pivotally connected to the piston and can also be used as a handle for positioning the jack. Tubes 10, 11 connect the cylinder and piston, respectively, to channels 12, 13 in a head 14 which closes the piston. The channels 12, 13 are connected by a passage 16 and are provided with ball check valves 21, 20. The passage 16 communicates with an annular channel 17 formed in the wall of a transverse bore 18 which receives the tapered shank 29, Fig. 3, of the head 28 of the pump cylinder. The channels 12, 13 are connected also by a by-pass 22 provided with a valve 23 having a projecting stem 24 which can be pressed inwardly by depressing the pump so as to bring the pin 50 on the head 28 into contact with it. The pump preferably comprises two tubular sections 26, 27 which are pivotally connected by elbows 33, 35, Fig. 4, having means for maintaining the sections in the same plane.
