Abstract

Jacks.-In fluid-pressure actuated jacks of the kind comprising one or more pumps arranged to transmit a motive impulse to the piston of the jack at each stroke of an oscillating actuating lever, the discharge stroke of the pumps 7 is effected by the lever 14 pressing upon the projecting extremities of the pump pistons 9 and the suction stroke. by the engagement of forked yokes 20 attached to the lever with pins 22 fixed to the pistons. The head 25 of the jack is attached to the closed upper end of a cylinder 24 which is disposed between cylinders 6, 23 screwed into the base 1 of the jack. The pumps discharge into a conduit 29 which communicates with the cylinder 23 by an inlet controlled by a ball valve 30. An aperture 23<a> in the head of the. cylinder 23 allows fluid to pass into the cylinder 24. A bent piece 31 of spring steel normally holds the ball on its seating. The conduits 34, 35 connecting the reservoir 6 and pumps contain spring-pressed ball valves 36. A conduit is also provided by which direct ccmmunication can be effected between the conduit 29 and reservoir 6 when the load is to be lowered.
