Abstract
206,695. King, C. F. L., and Maxfield, A. I. B. Nov. 1, 1922. Oscillating-cylinder pumps; actuating pumps by foot power.-A foot-operated oscillating-cylinder pump for inflating tyres &c. comprises an operating lever pivoted to the base and carrying the pump cylinder, and a second lever pivoted to the base and connected to the pump plunger. The base is formed of metal strips 1 vertically disposed and connected together and has pivoted to it a plate 9 to which strips 7 are secured to form the operating lever having a foot-plate 8. The pump cylinder is secured to the plate 9, and by a sling or cradle 10 to the levers 7. The piston rod is surrounded by a spring 15 by which the return stroke is effected, and carries at its end a T-shaped member the head of which is drilled to form a bearing for a pivot pin 14 journaled in the upper ends of a second pair of levers 17 and carrying at its ends flanged antifriction rollers 18 on which the strips 7 bear. Stops 21 limit the travel of the plate 9 and the levers. The connection to the tyre valve &c. is screwed into a passage 23 in the plate 9, leading into the cylinder.
