358,692. Lifting-jacks. TANGYES, Ltd., Cornwall Works, and WILKS, B., 179, Swanshurst Lane, Moseley, both in Birming- ham. Sept. 18, 1930, No. 27911. [Class 78 (iii).] A fluid-pressure jack of the kind having an oscillatory element movable in a vertical plane, pivoted to the jack casing, and operated by the jack handle, has the handle adapted to be moved longitudinally with respect to the element so as to act on the release valve and lower the load. The handle 6 engages a socket 2 mounted on a pivot 3 and connected to the pump 5. The handle has a pin 10 engageable with a recess 9 in the socket to facilitate positioning the jack. The pin can be disengaged from the recess and by rotating the handle the pin is free to slide in a groove 11, Fig. 4, in the socket so that the handle can be pushed inwards until its nd is over the end of the release valve stem 12. By rocking the handle, the enlarged end 14 of the valve stem presses a non- return valve 13 off its seat and so permits a slow lowering of the load as the pressure fluid escapes through the port 16 past the enlarged end 14. Further movement brings the reduced part 12a of the valve stem into the port 16 and allows a quicker release of the pressure fluid.
