Abstract

193,753. Marchand, H. May 8, 1922. Hand actuation; compensating for wear.-A brake lever, particularly for automobiles, is provided with means whereby a fine angular adjustment thereof may be effected, such means serving also to lock the lever in position. The lever comprises a member 4 pivoted at 2 by means of an arm 6, and an outer member 5 rotatable about the member 4 bv means of a handle 9 and having a screw-threaded part 8 adapted to engage a fixed toothed sector 12 concentric with the pivot 2. The part 8 has a slot or gap by which it may be c:ear of the sector 12. The connection to the brakes may comprise a rod or as shown a cable 3 passed through the rod 4 and secured to a threaded part 14 splined on the rod 4 and engaging an adjusting-nut 15. To apply the brakes, the handle 9 is turned to position so that the sector 12 is disposed in the slot in the part 8; the lever may then be turned on its pivot 2 in the usual way and by subsequently turning the part 8 into engagement with the sector 12, a fine adjustment of the lever about its pivot and a locking thereof may be effected.
