Abstract

193,519. Heenan & Froude, Ltd., and Walker, G. H. July 29, 1922. Gravity, materials discarding by.-Relates to apparatus for drying bread, hops, &c. of the kind in which the material passes downwards through a vertical chamber through hot and cold air zones, and consists in admitting the hot air near the bottom of the chamber so that it passes off at the top of the chamber. As shown, the material passes donwnwards through a chamber A having annular chambers C, K, which communicate with the interior of the chamber and to which hot and cold air respectively are supplied by a fan D. The material is discharged by means of rotary plates l which form an air-seal for the bottom of the chamber. The air passing to the zone C is heated by pipes E, F, which are heated by steam and flue gases respectively. Transverse bars a may be provided in the chamber to break up the material. In a modification, the material is carried downwards by a screw-conveyer and passes between grinding-rollers at the bottom of the chamber.
