Reflexed-flow type.-In hydraulic turbines of the impulse type, the runner 1 has a central sharp edge 3 and is shaped as shown in Fig. 2, the buckets 5 being formed separately and cast into the concave surfaces of the runner. The edges 8 of the buckets do not extend radially outward beyond the edge 3 of the runner until they have extended laterally from this edge. to a distance equal to the radius of the full jet 11. The pitch of the buckets is not greater than the diameter of the full jet, and the bottom of the bowl of each bucket lies inside the plane of the outer edge 10 of the next bucket. Supporting rings 13 are cast around the outer peripheries of the buckets. Fig. 4 shows a modified form of bucket 5 with shaped reinforcing rings 13. The runner may have buckets on one side only of the edge 3.
