Abstract
193,461. Phelps, H. E. Nov. 16, 1921. Couplings, disconnectible; t a p e r e d spigot - and - socket joints.-In a coupling for the pipes employed for supplying air under pressure to the air bags used in the manufac. ture of the casing for automobile tyres, the conical portion 4 of the member 1 on the pipe 41 is forced into engagement with the correspondingly shaped portion of the member 2 on the pipe 3 by the pivoted cam lever 15 connected by a link 10 to the member 2 and engaging under the bifurcated end 9 of a bridge 6 revoluble on the pipe 41, the broad bottom portion of the hook 12 on the member 2 engaging under the nose 8 of the bridge 6 and abutting the flange 14 thereon serving as a fulcrum. The arrangement permits the members 1, 2 to shift slightly relatively to one another to ensure a good joint. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 7248/12 and 163,053.
