Abstract

193,025. Signal Ges. Feb. 8, 1922, [Convention date]. Locating sounds-Comprises means for locating the direction of sound of the kind in which the sounds received by two spaced detectors are transmitted to a connection receiver through phase compensating devices so that they neutralize each other's effects on the receiver; and' consists in arrangements whereby the two sounds enter the compensators in opposite phase. In one form, not shown, the sounds are picked up by microphones which are oppositely connected to two telephone receivers, whence the sounds travel through trombone-tube compensators to a common earpiece. In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the microphones are replaced by diaphragms 15, 16, connected respectively to diaphragms 17, 18, arranged on opposite sides of sound-chambers 19, 20, so that the phase-effects of the two receivers are opposed. The arrangement indicated at 19 may be replaced by that shown in Fig. 3, where the chamber 19 communicates with the conduit 21 through a hole 24 formed in the diaphragm 17 itself. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification in which two microphones are mounted at opposite ends of a pivoted arm and are connected to two receiver windings so arranged that the receiver diaphragms neutralize one another's effects for sounds reaching the microphones in phase; or the microphones may be oppositely connected to the same receiver. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
