Abstract

Basic lead picrate, and other basic lead salts of highly nitrated organic compounds, for use in primers, percussion caps, and detonators are manufactured by adding a solution of the nitro-body, preferably mixed with an alkaline solution, to a lead salt solution whilst the latter is agitated, the addition being performed very gradually by drops. Mixtures of salts may be precipitated simultaneously. Besides basic lead picrate, the following basic lead salts are mentioned, namely those of: trinitrocresol, di- and tri-nitroresorcin, trinitroorcin, hexanitrodiresorcin, hexanitrodiphenylamine, dinitrobenzolnitroacid, trinitrophloroglucinol, tetranitrophenol, di- and tri-nitroaminophenol, dinitronitrosobenzene, polynitrophenols, mono- and tri-nitromethane. Neutral salts such as the lead salts of hexanitrodiphenylamine, and trinitroresorcin may also be simultaneously precipitated with basic salts. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 180,605, [Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c., Metallic].ALSO:Basic lead picrate, and other basic lead salts of highly nitrated organic compounds, for use in primers, percussion caps, and detonators are manufactured by adding a solution of the nitrobody, preferably mixed with an alkaline solution, to a lead salt solution whilst the latter is agitated, the addition being performed very gradually by drops. Mixtures of salts may be precipitated simultaneously. Among the basic lead salts mentioned are those of di- and trinitro-benzoic acids. Neutral salts such as the lead salts of hexanitrodiphenylamine, and trinitroresorcin may also be simultaneously precipitated with basic salts. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 180,605.
