Abstract

192,172. Mortimer, S. J. Oct. 28, 1921. Sound magnifying and directing appliances.-A horn for phonographs &c. consists of two or more complete smaller horns joined together in tandem, each component horn being provided with a bell flare at its mouth in addition to any natural flare which it may have. In an example, Fig. 1, the horn is of symmetrical conical form and comprises a smaller horn 1 and a larger horn 2 each flared as shown. In another example, Fig. 3, designed for cabinet machines, the horn comprises a horizontal member 11 flared to either or both sides and arranged under the motor-boards and a vertical member 6 having a vertical back and flaring front and sides, located in the rear and upper part of the pedestal. Directions are given for constructing the component horns with a suitable amount of flare.
