Abstract

16,964. Besler, C. L. Dec. 2. Cylinders, cooling.-The level of the cooling- water in the circulating system of an engine for a motor-vehicle is maintained constant automatically by water fed from a tank 8 to a float chamber 14 connected to a radiator 2. A float 29, Fig. 3, which turns about a fulcrum 30, carries a spring- controlled blade 24, which releases or pinches a flexible supply tube 37, in accordance with the position of the float. The tank 8 contains baffles to prevent splashing. A settling-chamber for foreign-matter may be located in the pipe 15 leading to the float chamber. The water may be fed through the pipe 15 either under pressure or by gravity.
