Abstract

2284. Marryat, F. T., and Morgan, L. Feb. 1. Motor road vehicles.-In an hydraulic transmission system, the water supplied to a hydraulic motor C is drawn by a pump B from a radiator D, and is returned to the radiator through the waterjacket of an internal-combustion engine A. The amount of water passing to the hydraulic motor is regulated by a valve E'. In another arrangement (not shown), the water may pass direct from the pump either to the motor or the water-jacket, the control being so arranged that, as water is shut off from the motor, a greater amount is sent through the water-jacket. In this case, the supply may be arranged so that there is a certain minimum supply to the water-jacket, but alternatively, the latter supply may be cut off altogether when the hydraulic motor is working at full power, separate connexions with the radiator being made so that there may be a constant circulation through the water-jacket. In another arrangement, the water may pass through the water-jacket before reaching the hydraulic motor. A water-supply tank separate from the radiator may be used, or the radiator may be enlarged to suit the altered conditions.
