Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the local overheating, eliminate the unnecessary driving of a pump and improve the fuel consuming property of the engine by a method wherein cooling water with reduced flow rate is fed to a passage for cooling the high temperature part of the engine, when the engine temperature is below the set value. CONSTITUTION:Primary and secondary water pumps 6a and 6b are inserted respectively in a primary cooling water passage 2a for cooling the high temperature part of the engine and in a secondary cooling water passage 2b for cooling the low temperature part of the engine. Both the pumps 6a and 6b are respectively coupled through driving belts 9a and 9b with primary and secondary electrically-driven motors 10a and 10b, which are controlled by the signals from a controlling device 8. The heating part 12 of a heating arrangement 11 installed outside the engine 1 is connected with a primary branch feed water part 15a by-passing a part of the primary cooling water passage 2a. The cooling water supplied from the primary cooling water passage 2a to the heating part 12 of the heating arrangement 11 is regulated with a switching valve 13.
