Exhaust-silencers.-The silencer comprises inner and outer walls 4, 4<a> respectively, of spiral formation, which extend from a central longitudinal inlet passage 2 to an outer longitudinal passage 5 out of the end of which the exhaust gases escape. The edges of the walls 4, 4<a> are made with beads d and are inserted into spiral grooves c formed in the end walls 7, 8. Air for cooling purposes is admitted through apertures 6 to the space between the convolutions of the spiral. In modifications, the tube 5 is used as the inlet pipe, and the tubes 2, 5 are not parallel.
