Abstract

123,995. Connors, E. J. Oct. 31, 1916. Exhaust-silencers of the kind in which the gases pass through a chamber provided with a helical baffle-plate 1 mounted between an outer casing (not shown) and a central perforated tube 2. The invention consists in providing the inner end of the central tube with a deflecting cone 6 and outlet louvers 5 to enable the gases to traverse the helix 1 and reenter the tube at its outer end through inlet louvers 5<1>, the gases then passing through the front of the tube to the atmosphere. The helix 1 is preferably made of progressively increasing pitch from the inner to the outer end by providing distance-pieces 3 of increasing size and through bolts 4 between the convolutions.
