Abstract

Presses with fixed mould tables or moulds; strain, preventing; processes.-Fire-bricks are formed by moulding or pressing them in a mould against the action or reaction of spring pressure. Fig. 1 shows one form of apparatus in which the bricks, preliminarily moulded in a wheel w, are delivered to a mould fitted with a bottom plunger g resting upon a rubber or like cushion e, which may be half the thickness of the bricks, aud are pressed by an upper plunger v. Packing-plates i may be inserted beneath the plunger to regulate the pressure. The plunger is guided by ears k sliding on rods l and by a central stem m, and is raised to discharge the bricks by a lever p working in a slot q. The mould is surmounted by a table s provided with receiving and delivery tables t, u, and may be provided with a renewable liner f and with holes for the escape of surplus clay.
