Abstract

Sleepers, composite. - Reinforced - concrete sleepers are made by pouring the wet concrete into moulds containing the reinforcement k with or without metal fibre and the cores and reinforcement d for the screw holes, all the surfaces in the mould being then subjected to a practically uniform pressure. The mould comprises the relatively movable parts e, e<1>, f, f<1>, f<2>, f<3> and a die E for the top surface of the sleeper. These are retained by a casing h carried by springs r on the plunger p of the hydraulic press P. Standard pattern coach-screws T are retained in the screw holes during the moulding and pressing operations.
