11,278. Po, G. Aug. 10, 1914, Convention date]. Rudders.-In ships having two rudders, the aggregate area of the rudders is made equal to one-thirtieth of that of the leeway plane of the ship. The distance between the rudders when in alinement is approximately one-tenth to one-eighth of the ship length, and the area of the forward rudder is about one-fifth greater than the area of the stern rudder. The rudders may be controlled from the bridge. Fig. 2 shows two rudders placed in alinement, and Fig. 6 shows two rudders symmetrically placed with respect to the central longitudinal plane and arranged to have a movement of 40 degrees inwards and 90 degrees outwards for stopping way.
