Propelling and steering by vibrating plates or fins.-The propeller consists of a plate C, shaped preferably like the tail of a fish, and connected by a rule joint to an oscillating arm A. The plate may be jointed directly to the arm A, as in Fig. 4, or an intermediate piece D, Fig. 2, may be used similarly jointed to the arm A and plate C. Four such propellers may be used at the stern, two at the sides for steering, and the others for propelling the vessel.
