Auxiliary surfaces for preventing rolling. - Comprises improvements in the construction of planes attached to the sides of vessels beneath the water-line for the purpose of reducing rolling. The planes may extend the whole cr part of the length of the vessel, and are set at an inclination to the horizontal. The upper portions e of the plates are riveted to the ships' plating and the edges are recessed as shown at one end and bevelled at the other to form joints and enable the planes to present a smooth surface. Modifications are described in which the joints are half-lapped or formed by thinning down the edges of the plates and riveting them,
