Abstract

7089. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, [Bock, W. E.]. May 11. Roller bearings.-The conical rollers of a roller bearing are provided with means for taking end thrusts, comprising curved or spherical surfaces on both sides of enlarged heads D in contact with bearing-surfaces I, K. The rollers are grooved at E, and the bearing is grooved at L. The lines of contact of the conical rollers A, when produced, pass through the points of contact H, J of the thrust bearings, so that sliding friction between the parts is eliminated, even after the bearing has been adjusted to take up wear. The divergence between the thrust bearing-surfaces is slight, each point of contact being reinforced symmetrically on opposite sides. The end-thrust bearing-surfaces are formed either on the race-rings B or on separate rings K. The bearing-on the inner side of the head D may be omitted.
