Abstract

11,734. Lake, W. E., [Sharpneck, E. L.]. May 18. Roller bearings.-A roller bearing for axle-boxes of railway vehicles &c. is provided with means for taking end thrusts of the roller cage, comprising antifriction plugs 14 of raw bide, fitted to the end rings 12 of the cage. The rings are connected by spindles 13, on each of which are mounted two rollers 15 provided with wooden bushes 16. The rollers are spaced by antifriction washers 17, 18, preferably of raw hide. The end thrust of the journal A is taken by a block fitted into a pocket 9 at the end of the axle-box. The block is composed of segmental pieces 10 of wood separated by diametrical layers 11 of raw bide &c. The bushes 16, plugs 14, and the thrust block 10,11 are preferably saturated with lubricant.
