Abstract

196,710. National Acme Co., and Drissner, A. E. Feb. 2, 1922. Bushes; journals; thrust bearings.-The bearings of high-speed spindles for spinning-machines, lathes &c. comprise soft readily-removable bushes 22, 30 in the spindle revolving in fixed relatively hard encircling bushes 14, 15. The soft bushes 22, 30, which are keyed to the spindle, have recesses 23 which act as air cushions to permit expansion when the bushes become heated. The bearing at one end of the spindle is fitted with a floating thrust ring 27 preferably of bronze, and a hard steel ring 25 is fixed to the adjacent portion of the spindle 7. The opposite end of the spindle is screwed and is provided with nuts 38, 39 which bear on the bush 30 to take up end play or thrust of the spindle. Lubricant is supplied to the bearing surfaces through passages 11, 21, and reservoirs A and B and the surfaces of the bushes 22, 30 are spirally grooved.
