Abstract

7081. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. May 11. Transformers.-The windings of transformers and other electric apparatus have all their sections connected in series for one voltage, and some sections in parallel connected in series with the remaining sections for a different voltage. By these connexions, no ends of sections are left disconnected, power current flows through all the sections, and the injurious effects of surges are diminished. In Fig. 1, the secondary 1 of a transformer is shown divided into two parts and has four taps 3 ... 6. All the windings can be connected in series by the connexion of taps 4, 5; but by connecting taps 3, 5 and 4, 6 as shown, the sections between the taps are connected in parallel. The winding may be divided into more than two parts and the series of taps repeated.
