Abstract
5934. Crawford, G. W. April 20. Axial-flow type; reversing.-Relates to reversible turbines of the kind in which either the outer or the inner bladed member may function as the rotor, according to the desired direction of working. The shaft 6 is provided with a flanged member 17, .which is adapted to be driven in one direction by a flanged member 20 screwed to the shaft 1 of the inner member 9, and in the opposite direction by a flanged member 14 secured to a sleeve 12 of the outer casing 11. By sliding the tapered clutch member 17 on the shaft 6 in one direction or the other, engagement is made with either the member 20 or 14, and the unclutched member 11 or 9 is held as stator by a brake band 26 or 27. Motive fluid is admitted by an axial passage 10 to radial ducts leading to the bladed working chamber between the members 9, 11, and exhaust is effected through a port 28.
