5703. Banister, H. J. April 16 Cooking-stoves. - A field cooker mounted on a cranked axle 3 or on a wagon &c. consists of two boilers or cookers 12, 12<a>, two ovens 16, and two boilers or water-heaters 6, 6<a> forming with a grate 7 a fire-place 5 for heating the whole. The boilers 6, 6<a> are supported by projections 30 and may be fixed or may be removable through the fire doorway. The tanks 12, 12<a> are supported by their flanges 32 resting on flanges 31 on the outer casing 2, and receive cooking-vessels 14. The boiler space is separated from the oven spaces by a partition 15, forming flues as shown. At the upper corner of the oven space is a single damper 17, and at its lower corner are two dampers 17<a> all mounted on spindles connected by levers and links 20 so as to conduct the gases under the ovens, or, alternatively, over them straight to the chimney 13. The ovens are removable, and are supported by projections 33. A plate &c. warming chamber 22 is formed below the ovens. When the vehicle is stationary, the brake 25 may be used to prevent the stove from tilting.
