Abstract

4276. Midgley, A. H., and Vandervell, C. A. March 18. Electric-lamp lanterns.-Relates to a dash-board or like lamp of the type in which two tubular casings mounted one within the other are provided with openings for the passage of light, the outer casing being fixed to a support, and the inner casing, which carries the electric lamp, being rotatable so that the amount of opening for the passage of light may be varied. The inner casing f is arranged to protrude through the end of the outer casing a, and is retained in position by means of a screw union-nut p. The electric lamp n is supported between spring-controlled sliding contacts j, j<1>, and a contact h<1>, carried by the end g of the inner casing f, co-operates with a contact h secured to a cap c at one end of the outer casing, so that the circuit is broken when the light is shut off. A glass tube, half of which may be provided with an opal surface to act as a reflector, is mounted within the casing f and is secured by a spring l. The inner casing is rotated by means of a milledheaded cap m secured thereto by a bayonetfastening o and carrying the contact j<1>. A small hole is formed in the back of the inner casing f to enable one to ascertain whether the lamp circuit is interrupted. The outer tubular casing is provided with a recess b forming a base for fixing the lamp to a support.
