Abstract
3152. Longman, J. Feb. 26. Aromatic aldehydes are obtained by treating hydrocarbons of the benzene series or halogen derivatives thereof with carbon monoxide under pressure in the presence of aluminium chloride; pressures of 40 to 90 atmospheres are preferably used, and the process may be accelerated by admitting a little hydrochloric acid gas. Examples are given of the production of benzaldehyde, p-tolylaldehyde, and p-chlorbenzaldehyde.
