Abstract

23,957. Bergmann, F. J. Oct. 18. Blacklead.-Graphite is obtained by heating acetylene under pressure with an oxidizing-agent, such as hydrogen peroxide in solution. The process is carried out at about 150‹ C. under a pressure of about 5 atmospheres. Instead of using acetylene gas, calcium carbide may be employed with the solution of hydrogen peroxide, the calcium hydrate formed in the reaction being dissolved out by hydrochloric acid.
