Prismatic compasses. - A compass is provided with a telescope mounted diametrically over the dial and having a sighting-pin and a mirror or prism so as to view the object and the figures on the dial together in focus with the pin. A tube c carrying the eye lens d, object lens d', and sighting- pin c<1> is mounted diametrically over the compass case a and carries a mirror or prism e having two silvered surfaces e<2>, e<3>, so that the figures on the compass dial a<2> are viewed erect through the eye lens d in focus with the sighting-pin and the object. The object is seen inverted, but the tube may be provided with an erecting telescopic eyepiece so as to give a magnified erect image of the object.
