Abstract

Periscopes; telescope systems.-A trench periscope comprises a telescope and a small mirror, rightangled prism, or the equivalent h mounted at the position of the image of the pupil of the observer's eye. The prism h may be supported by one or more thin rods f inserted into a tube e carried by the tube a, which contains the objectglass b, the eye-piece c, and a prism d near the eyepiece. The observed image may be erected by a prism combination, by attaching a lens to the vertical face of the prism h, by curving one or both faces of the prism h, or by arranging the prism d and eyepiece c so that the observer stands with his back to the object viewed.
