Abstract

1349. Davies, J. P. Jan. 27. Water - tube boilers; partitions i n water space; steam and water drums.-In water-tube boilers with top and bottom drums connected by vertical tubes, balancing-drums 12 connect all the elements of the feed-pipes 3. The bottom drum is sloped downward to the rear and there fitted with tubes 4 leading to mud drums 5 protected from the fire by brickwork 7. The top drums have covers 14 extending their whole length, so that, when removed, the elements can be renewed or cleaned readily. The covers carry the steam drum 8. The flue 18 is carried over the top of the boiler and down at the rear as shown at 25, and has man-holes 17 therein to allow access to the dome S. The superheater is suspended from a cast-iron box 20, and rests on the delivery pipes which pass from the water space at the back and sides of the combustion space to the rear of the top drums. In the double-ended type of generator, the superheaters are placed between the elements.
