Brakes, arrangement and disposition of.-Comprises steering-wheel braking apparatus in which the braking effect on the two steering wheels is separately varied when the wheels are steered, the brake being more or less released on the wheel taking the outer side of the curve. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the brake is applied by a rod 1 sliding in the steering pivot 2 but prevented from rotating with the stub axle 3 of the steering wheel. The upper end of the rod, which acts on the arm 7 of the brake cam 8, is formed with a cam 6 so that as the steering wheel swivels about the steering pivot the braking effect varies. The cams 6 for the two steering wheels may be so arranged that the brake on the outside wheel is the only one effected. Modifications are described in which (1) the rod 1 rotates with the stub axle about the steering pivot, a cam being provided between the lower end of the rod and the operating lever 10, and (2) the rod or a flexible cable is arranged eccentrically within the steering pivot, the cam 6 being dispensed with. In the construction shown in Fig. 8 the brake is applied by means of a shaft 12, this shaft either having its universal joint 13 out of line with the centre 2<a> of the steering pivot or having its two. parts normally inclined to each other, so that when the stub axle swivels the brake cam 11 rotates slightly relatively to the main part of the shaft 12.
