Abstract

23,197. Beckmann, W. Dec. 10, 1913. [Convention date]. Speed - indicator transmission mechanism.- An indicator with a change-speed device between the main shaft and the indicator proper has auxiliary shafts 6, 7, Fig. 7, parallel to the main shaft 5, half of the change-gears being arranged on each auxiliary shaft. The shaft 6 carries an axially movable sleeve 15 with pinions 16, 17 capable of selective engagement with pinions 21, 22 on the main shaft; it also carries a wheel 8 in gear with a wheel 9 upon a sleeve 12, through a bevel-wheel 13 on which the magnet or other operative portion of the indicator is driven. A similar sleeve 18 is splined upon the shaft 7. The sleeves 15, 18 are moved by levers 24, 25, Fig. 8, from a shaft 30, a handle on which projects from the front of the machine. This shaft is spring-pressed so as to set the largest gear - reduction automatically into operation when the operating- handle is released.
