Abstract
22,131. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Nov. 6. Commutating - poles; cores, yokes, and carcase structures; exciting.-In the compensated directcurrent dynamo - electric machine described in Specification 19,210/09, the compensating-winding is adapted to overpower the armature reaction, thereby producing 'a commutating-flux, and the machine is provided with definite commutating- teeth. As described in the above-mentioned Specification, the compensating-winding 29<1> and the exciting-winding 28<1> have a fifty per cent pitch and are completely distributed over the field magnet. The commutating - teeth 31 are made wider than the other teeth and are separated from the adjacent teeth by relatively wide slots. These slots are closed by non - magnetic wedges 35, magnetic wedges 36 being used to close the other slots. In a modification, the slots are unevenly distributed, the greatest distance between the slots occurring at the centre of the pole face and diminishing towards the ends.
